We are aware of the bug using iOS 4.2+. The SSL connection can not be established.
We have done a test by replacing GNUTLS with OpenSSL and it worked fine again.Still investigating where the issue exactly is in GNUTLS, but meanwhile we might provide
a solution by offering to optionally compile the library with OpenSSL support aswell. -
Marcel November 27th, 2010 @ 07:52 AM
Sorry, can you give a short HOWTO compile the library with OpenSSL support? Or will you provide new binaries?

The bug is fixed in git master. I'll package a stable release with the fix included later on so distros will be able to pick it up quickly.

mhm, im using your release from ppa and ubuntu 10.04 but my iphone4 still doesnt get recognized.
updated all packets i was using before with ios4.1
libimobiledevices
usbmuxd
libusbmux
libplist
ifusewas working like that before, am i missing something ?!
Best
HelmarPS: was also trying to compile everything myself from scratch, but no luck with that either ...
-
Martin S. November 29th, 2010 @ 11:18 AM
You should probably just try again (new packages have been added) and make sure to have libimobiledevice 1.0.4.
Since older versions already worked with iOS 4.1, you must probably have some configuration issue that causes it to not work. Did you also install the gvfs afc backend which is required to have automounting at all?
If you can plugin your device and type ideviceinfo in a terminal without getting errors, libimobiledevice works fine.
-
Helmar Waiczies November 30th, 2010 @ 02:07 PM
ok, i did that again and now im getting lots of info from ideviceinfo :)
but still the filesystem doesnt get mounted automatically like before
can i check something else or mount it manually ?!
(automount usually work, e.g. when i plugin a usb-stick or usb-harddrive)thnx a lot

Martin S. December 1st, 2010 @ 10:40 AM
@Helmar: Connect your device, open a terminal and run "/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-afc-volume-monitor". Then please post the output here.

Helmar Waiczies December 1st, 2010 @ 12:59 PM
oki getting closer and closer,
after installing gvfs backends on that computer again (maybe i missed it before)
i can call
/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-afc-volume-monitor and im getting:Volume monitor alive
creating volume for device uuid '7990c9fe6e16f543290ffc85bafced6832fd3a13'and my iphone gets mounted, i can use filesystem, Rhythmbox and F-Spot :)
hopefully last question (for now) how do i get it automatically loaded, must be some mistakes i did with udev, or ?!
Best

Helmar Waiczies December 1st, 2010 @ 10:34 PM
i dont know how i managed now, but on two out of three computers its working now
last one at work i could at least mount it manually (as described above)
maybe it just needs a reboot (that what helped on one of them)Best Regards

Helmar Waiczies December 2nd, 2010 @ 09:27 AM

This worked for me also. Thanks! I was about to restore to 4.1.

Martin S. December 2nd, 2010 @ 07:43 PM
If anyone still has the issue, please provide/attach the full output of "ideviceinfo -d", it would really help us to try to find a fix for other users affected by the issue. Thanks.
-
magemaster December 3rd, 2010 @ 06:03 PM
Here is a ideviceinfo -d
I can idevicepair pair, but idevicepair list always return nothing, arch linux, libimobiledevice current version. -
Martin S. December 3rd, 2010 @ 06:12 PM
@magemaster: Thanks, but we need the output from someone who is encountering the GNUTLS issue despite upgrading to 1.0.4.

Nikias Bassen December 11th, 2010 @ 11:00 AM
@Jeff, your gvfs is still using the old version of libimobiledevice. Make sure you don't have any version flying around in /usr/local/lib, I bet you have libimobiledevice in /usr/lib and in /usr/local/lib so one of them works and one of them doesn't. Make sure you use the packages listed here:
https://launchpad.net/~pmcenery/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=lucid
Basically you should remove libimobiledevice from /usr/local/lib/ and add ppa:pmcenery/ppa to your package sources:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmcenery/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I have exactly the same problem s jeff, except that i am using karmic, and the only available libimobiledevice seems to be 0.9.7.
Any suggestion ? Is a newer version of the library coming for karmic sooner or later ??
Thanks
Giampiero

Nikias Bassen February 14th, 2011 @ 01:28 AM
Karmic is quite old. You really should think of upgrading to a newer ubuntu version.

Like Helmar Waiczies I run /usr/local/lib# /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-afc-volume-monitor and I get as output:
Volume monitor alive creating volume for device uuid '75426f0050bdd3088650d72d5c8837b2648df3a5' And then nothing else.No prompt. The process stay running for a while until I kill it. -

Having a problem with Unbuntu recognising my IPhone. Whe I plug in the USB I get the error message:
Unbuntu doesn't recognise my IPhone 3GS (OS 4.2.1). I get the error message:
"Unable to Mount Don" "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)"
I tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop with the same results.
My IPhone has a message that says: "Charging not supported with this accessory"
I've read all the above but I am a total newbie to Linux & Unbuntu so I am totally clueless as to what to do.
Does anyone have a fix for this?
Thanks!
Don

I have an iPhone 4G with 4.2.1. Currently, it appears to mount and is recognised in Banshee and rythmbox. The iPhone appears to sync in both programs (in Banshee it does not unsync however; it freezes?) and the songs transfer to the device, but they do not appear when I check the ipod. iPhone just doesn't seem to recognise them.
I've installed libimobiledevice 1.0.4, run unpair pair validate, followed basically all suggestions on this page... no dice. Any help would be appreciated :)

@PhoenixRevived: It appears you do not have followed the advice from this ticket as you still get the old "GNUTLS ERROR: A TLS fatal alert has been received." error message. Do you have at least libimobiledevice 1.0.4 installed? Did you run "idevicepair unpair"? Which iOS version are you using with?

Ryan M. May 20th, 2011 @ 06:22 PM
After having read this ticket twice, I still can't get my iPod touch to mount. I think I've tried everything on here and all of my packages are updated. I have my ideviceinfo -d file attached.

Nikias Bassen May 20th, 2011 @ 09:55 PM
I committed a fix 46 hours ago which will help you with your problem. You will have to compile libimobiledevice yourself since the fix is not included in any release yet.

@Jeff, your gvfs is still using the old version of libimobiledevice. Make sure you don't have any version flying around in >/usr/local/lib, I bet you have libimobiledevice in /usr/lib and in /usr/local/lib so one of them works and one of them doesn't.
Then it should work fine.
Hi Nikias, thanks a lot! This helped me out. Ubuntu 10.10, since upgrade from iOS 3.1.3 to iOS 4.3.3 on my iPhone 3GS I had this problem.
Greetings from Germany
Dirk

well well
seems it is happening allover.. i recently did a foolish thing.. upgraded a perfectly functioning iphone.. lost network contact, usb cable contact i have looked evrywhere for a way to get back to 4.2.5 or whatever it was.. but no go since i have no img file to restore to..
so second best is to ignore icloud and try to restore to function..this is after reinstalled recommended files..
mine is a bit newer as u see but what the heck..magnus@Bigbox:~$ uname -a

update:
source https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2784174?start=0&tstart=0
Note: If you leave the Personal Hotspot screen or put iPhone to sleep, iPhone only broadcasts the Wi-Fi network for an additional 90 seconds. If no devices join the Wi-Fi network during that time, iPhone 4 stops broadcasting your Wi-Fi network. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.
So, if I understand correctly, if you leave your iphone on the the Settings --> Personal Hotspot screen, than it shouldn't stop broadcasting.
did work fine b4.. however , i can connect again.. [Solved]
