  Thanks for testing out idevicebackup2. The log indeed shows that everything was fine during restore.
  Our testing showed that restore worked fine on an iPad with iOS 4.3.1.

  I am not sure if a native backup includes music and videos though (i think iTunes just syncs this from your local music library), but it contains photos and applications for sure and should restore those.

  Did your device reboot after the restore?

  Perhaps altering the options to restore might help as we might simply have misinterpreted those (especially the system and settings options).

  Also run "idevicebackup2 unback " and check the backup folder afterwards. It will contain the files of the backup and you'll see what the device restores. Check if it contains what you wanted to backup.

  Think you're right about music and video; my bad.

  Files are there after running idevicebackup2 unback on the backup. The device reboots, but no data is present. Tried the same thing with an iPod touch 2G, and encountered the same thing (that device is on 4.2.1).

  Actually, I just realized that applications themselves appear to be missing from the backup, unless I missed them somehow...

  The applications aren't backed up from the devices. The Apple restore process relies on syncing media and apps back from the library.

  You get the same results when dumping out an iTunes created backup.

  Which filés aren't making it back onto the device?

  I setup a 3GS with 4.2.1 and no jailbreak. I installed a few apps and some media. Then I file shared some images into AirSharing and ran a backup with idevicebackup2.

  The app domain files were backed up. I then removed AirSharing, then did a restore. As expected the app was still gone. After I reinstalled AirSharing it had the documents from the backup ready to go.

  Granted this is a tiny little restore test. I can try a bigger device load if you want.

  I've attached my shell output. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.7 and libimobiledevice 1.1.1.

  From what we know, the backup process does not save more than the app's documents and no media/music (or basically what is related to the iTunes Library). Please test with the latest idevicebackup2 as it received a couple of changes.

  Feel free to reopen if you still encounter the issue and please describe which files don't make it on the device if possible.
