Reported by juju42 | January 17th, 2011 @ 07:12 AM
I'm trying to use libiphone on Ubuntu 10.10 (kernel 2.6.35-24) with iPhone 4.1.2
I add libimobiledevice repository to get 1.0.4 and mount iphone but I still can't make backup
$ idevicebackup backup 20110114 Backup directory is
"20110114"
Started "com.apple.mobilebackup" service on port 50137.
Starting backup...
Creating Info.plist for new backup.
Requesting backup from device...
ERROR: Could not start backup process: device refused to start the
backup process.
debug mode got:
Refusing to backup using old backup service. Install the iPhone SDK
4.0.
Google doesn't help me and it does not seem to be this bug:

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue. The issue has already been reported here:
http://libiphone.lighthouseapp.com/projects/27916/tickets/180-cant-...With iOS 4, Apple introduced a new protocol for the backup process which required a new implementation.
Devices with iOS 4 will refuse to backup using the old implementation. We have a working implementation of the new procotol in libimobiledevice's git repository within the "idevicebackup4" branch already.
However if you are not keen into compiling things yourself, you should probably wait until 1.2.0 is released which will feature native iOS4+ backup and restore support.
