iPhone 4 not detected
Reported by soTo | October 11th, 2010 @ 05:03 PM
Hi everyone,
I would like some help. I installed today Maverick version of Xubuntu. I want to use my iPhone 4 on it.
So I went on https://launchpad.net/~pmcenery/+archive/ppa/+packages, the url proposed by http://www.libimobiledevice.org. At the end I have installed on my computer the following Maverick libraries:
- dkms
- fakeroot
- ipheth-dkms
- ipheth-utils
- patch
- libimobiledevice1 (which I already had on Maverick)
- libusbmuxd1 (same)
I plug my iPhone and nothing seems to work. It does not appear on my desktop.
Please help! I'm a newbie with Ubuntu.

The version of libimobiledevice that comes with ubuntu is old, try upgrading.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade -

Ok thanks! I did an update/upgrade after having added the ppa:pmcenery/ppa (which I forgot before) and I upgraded all:
- ipheth-utils
- libimobiledevice1
- libusbmuxd1
- libusbmuxd1-dbg
- usbmuxd
So, nothing more now unfortunatly! I plug and it does not work! Please help me again!

try mounting it manually.
sudo usbmuxd &
mkdir ~/iPhone
ifuse ~/iPhoneYou might have to install ifuse.
sudo apt-get install ifuse

Thanks a lot! I did what you said and everything is OK. I can navigate then in ~/iPhone and see all my stuffs. Am going to try all the programs for video, music, synch and so on.
Is there a particular way to unmount? Can I directly unplug my iPhone?

Another question, can I manually put my music in a folder of my iPhone with a copy/past (then which folder is it?) or should I do it via a program?

you can unmount it with
sudo umount ~/iPhoneyou can use gtkpod to put music on it. rhythmbox might work too.
