Unable to connect iPhone
Reported by Erik Andersen | February 11th, 2013 @ 12:04 PM
Good morning
I run Knoppix 6.7 off a USB stick on an Acer Aspire 5520.I am trying to connect an iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1, jailbroken.
File Manager sees the phone when connected via USB, but when I try to mount the volume I get 'Unhandled Lockdown error (-4)'
Below is Terminal output:
knoppix@Microknoppix:~$ lsusb | grep Apple
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 05ac:1294 Apple, Inc. iPhone 3GS
knoppix@Microknoppix:~$ sudo mkdir /media/iPhone
knoppix@Microknoppix:~$ sudo ifuse /media/iPhone/ -s
Failed to connect to lockdownd service on the device.
Try again. If it still fails try rebooting your device.
knoppix@Microknoppix:~$
Have I missed something fundamental or is this an iOS constraint? Can someone here help me to get this device connected?

- State changed from new to open
- Tag set to ios 5.1.1, iphone 3gs, ifuse, jailbreak, pairing
Please report the versions of the following components:
- ifuse
- libimobiledevice
- libplist
- usbmuxd
Lockdownd error -4 is "LOCKDOWN_E_PAIRING_FAILED".
You can also try to run "idevicepair unpair" then "idevicepair validate" which might fix your issue. -

Thanks for your time Martin
The following are installed:
ifuse v 1.0.0-1
libimobiledevice1 v 1.0.2-1
libplist1 v 1.3-2
usbmuxd v 1.0.4-1If I issue "idevicepair unpair" then "idevicepair validate" I get "QueryType failed, error code -256" on both sets of commands.

I'm still struggling with this. I've been advised to update some packages, which I've done. The following are installed:
libimobiledevice-utils v 1.0.2-1
libimobiledevice1 v 1.0.2-1
libimobiledevice2 v 1.1.1-4
libimobiledevice2-dbg v 1.1.1-4
gvfs v1.6.4-3
gvfs-backends v1.6.4-3
gvfs-bin v1.6.4-3
gvfs-fuse v1.6.4-3
ifuse v 1.0.0-1
ifuse-dbg v 1.0.0-1"idevice_id -l" returns the iPhone's UUID, and "ideviceinfo -s" returns general info, however "idevicepair unpair" and "idevicepair pair" both return "QueryType failed, error code -256."
