  I have donwloaded compiled and installed the following versions of the libraries
  libimobiledevice-1.0.7
  libplist-1.8
  libusb-1.0.9
  usbmuxd-1.0.8
  But I am still getting the same problem.

  • State changed from “new” to “open”
  • Tag set to “ios 6.0.1, iphone 4s, debian, usbmuxd”
  • Milestone set to “1.2.0 Release”
  • Milestone order changed from “190986” to “0”

  Please try to run "idevice_id -l" and post the output here.
  Furthermore please check the output of "ideviceinfo -d" and post the output here.

  Please try to run usbmuxd -f with usbmuxd-1.0.8, too. It should at least output that it detects a device.

  Please also try to change your USB port.

  Hi
  I see some significant progress after rebooting my computer(I did it before but I don't know why it did not work).

  1) usbmuxd is now able to connect to my device (I have tried the two usb ports and they all work). I have masked the serial number in the output bellow

  2) idevice_id -l gives me the device serial number

  3) Unfortunately I am still not able to connect to the Iphone wireless network. I can see the iphone listed as the available networks. When I select the Iphone I am prompted to enter my security credentials for WPA & WPA2 Personal. I enter the password exactly as it is displayed on the Iphone. I do this while keeping the personal hotspot page open on the iphone. I have disabled login on the Iphone.

  Is there anything else I can try?

  It kind of doesn't make sense to attempt to "tether" over Wifi if you already are attached over USB and tether over it...

  This is how it works:

  • Setup a personal hotspot on the device and disable Wifi until after this process
  • Connect device by USB
  • View details by running "ideviceinfo" just to make sure the device USB communication is working
  • Make sure the tethering kernel driver "ipheth" is loaded using "lsmog | grep -i ipheth"
  • Make sure to show the "personal hotspot page" on the device
  • Use the new network device ipheth created (or select it in NetworkManager on GNOME, don't connect to Wifi!)
  • If the connection is established, you should be tethering over USB over your device's Internet connection and a blue statusbar on the device screen should indicate that you are connected

  This works fine here but it's not easy to grasp for the first time.

  Tethering only works by using the phone's cellular data connection, it won't tether the phone's WiFi connection!
  Closing due to no feedback, feel free to reopen if still not solved.
