Request : idevicebackup(4) option only folder or file

Reported by raboliot | April 21st, 2011 @ 10:15 AM

My request is to backup only a file or a folder.
Is it possible using idevicebackup ? (in my case idevicebackup4)

I assume it is rather not possible for now (it might be with some trickery but it would not be trivial to do now nor worth the effort).

The iOS 3.x backup protocol allowed to do just that and we could in theory backup only a file or folder.
For instance, this allowed the "Spirit Jailbreak" which restored a single "jailbreak" file onto the device to jailbreak it.

However, the iOS 4.x backup protocol moved almost all backup logic onto the iDevice.
So idevicebackup4 is just an operator which receives it's "todos" from the iDevice.

If it attempts to interfer and alter the data inbetween, the inconsistency will cause the iDevice to refuse talking to the operator and draw the whole backup/restore process useless.

Mind that we still support "incremental backups".
So running a backup on the same backup folder will update the data with just the changes since the last backup, it won't do a full backup again.
