Reported by aso.sol | January 18th, 2011 @ 08:04 PM
I have an iphone 4, just came home from vacation and synced it with pc (win vista). after that i agreed to upgrade to newest OS on phone. Then everything was lost. I started restoring from last backup.. while it was restoring accidently my friend tripped on the power-chord and my PC went out (there were not a battery in it!). so the ps shut down - WHILE it were restoring all data back to iphone!! ...
when I restarted the pc, got back to itunes, it could not read the backup folder afterwards!!.. OMG!.. i see i have around 5500 items in the backup folder and is about 4GB of size. The issue is that the "status, manifest, plist etc" files are NOT THERE!!... what to dooo???
so right now, i just wanna encode the existing files back ... the most important stuff are my pictures, i dont care bout the rest!..
I navigated the backup folder through some iphone software, and I see a big list.. i noticed this: Media/PhotoData/Photos/PhotosAux.sqllite has the size: 12228. I can even copy this to my desktop!..
Does that meen that my pictures are there somehow?? can I get them back somehow??
My Backup folder is not encrypted (even if it shows the files as
a scrambled file-name).
example of files that are in my folder:

but no manifest.mbdb or Manifest.mbdx can i reuse one of these files from an earlier backup,, so it can see the new files
PLEASE HELP.. The pictures are very important for me.. i took around 3000 pictures when i was in iran for 1½ month. came home to sync, and this happended .. i'll transfer some of the files, to anyone who is willing to decode the pictures!.. i dont care about the rest!,, just the pictures.

- State changed from new to invalid
- Tag set to camera roll, iphone 4, backup, recovery
A few possibilities:
- If you have an earlier backup, simply try to copy over the manifest, status and info files and restore
- Copy them over and use some "backup browsing" application on Windows to copy individual files (CopyTrans Manager, iphonebrowser, SharePod, whatever for Windows)
- Decode the Manifest file, which is a PList file, manually to get a list of hash<->filename mapping and manually copy your photos
- Simply open explorer (win) or nautilus (linux) in that backup folder, it should already start to create thumbnails for files which are photos that you can copy (at least nautilus does that)
- Browsing the directory with a better image viewer like IrfanView or AcdSee or whatever is currently "popular" should also detect which files are infact photos
Other than that this is not a libimobiledevice bug, but feel free to report how you progress here.
