Cannon Mount Iphone with IOS 4.2.1 in Ubuntu 10.10

Reported by bprocida | November 29th, 2010 @ 05:10 PM

I have 1.0.4 and am using the most recent release from the PPA but am still getting the error 'Unable to mount Ben's Iphone DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus).

When I type in ideviceinfo in terminal it gives me the error GNUTLS ERROR: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.

What should I do?

-Ben

It means that you did not update correctly or that you still have traces of the old library on your system somewhere from experimenting with sources.

Please give us a hint to be able to help you by at least always writing your device model and iOS version in the report.

    1. Please verify if "ideviceinfo" works or shows an error.
    2. Verify that you do not have any old library in /usr/local/lib/libimobiledevice*
    3. Restart your desktop sesssion at least once.

Same issue, I'm running ios 4.2.1 and libimobiledevice 1.0.4 on ubuntu 10.10.

    1) I get the error "GNUTLS ERROR: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received."
    2) There are no old libraries in /usr/local/lib/
    3) Done

I haven't done anything with sources, just upgraded the phone and then ubuntu from the ppa. Is there anything else that I can provide?

Thanks for the information. Please post the output of "l /usr/lib/libimob*"

Running iOS 4.2.1 on an 3rd Gen 32GB iPod Touch.
ideviceinfo outputs "GNUTLS ERROR: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received." No evidence of any old libraries (and no reason there should be, I've just been using the default Ubuntu sources until now).

My output for l /usr/lib/libimob* is:
    /usr/lib/libimobiledevice.so.1@ /usr/lib/libimobiledevice.so.1.0.4

Closing this ticket, to sum it up, the solution is invoking

    idevicepair unpair

When using any libimobiledevice-related tools the pairing is done automatically, so idevicepair pair and idevicepair validate is not really required.
