iPhone 3G won't pair under VMware

Reported by Stephen | October 25th, 2010 @ 04:19 PM

Hi,

I run a Debian unstable/experimental under VMware and the iPhone won't pair (works fine on a standalone Debian though).

Here's the dmesg output:

[ 4745.580887] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [ 4745.742591] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=05ac, idProduct=1292 [ 4745.742633] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 4745.742700] usb 1-1: Product: iPhone [ 4745.742736] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Apple Inc. /usr/bin/idevicepair pair

No device found, is it plugged in?

/lib/udev/ipheth-pair

/lib/udev/ipheth-pair: -3: cannot get default device #

~# dpkg --list | grep iPhone ii ifuse 1.0.0-1 FUSE module for iPhone and iPod Touch devices
ii ipheth-utils 1.0-3 USB tethering driver support utilities for the iPhone
ii libimobiledevice-utils 1.0.2-1 Library for communicating with iPhone and iPod Touch devices
ii libimobiledevice1 1.0.2-1 Library for communicating with the iPhone and iPod Touch
ii libusbmuxd1 1.0.4-1 USB multiplexor daemon for iPhone and iPod Touch devices - library
ii usbmuxd 1.0.4-1 USB multiplexor daemon for iPhone and iPod Touch devices

I know this may not be a priority, but I thought it would be nice to fix.

Best,

--Stephen

While we don't fix VMWare USB issues, please provide information about your host system and vmware software, perhaps we could test this.

No information provided. We also tested a recent libimobiledevice within a VMware VM just fine thus closing this ticket.
