I've had problems like that too.
For me the PTP device would show up but not the AFC.
One possibility that I've thought of is that maybe the podsleuth file (which is 20-podsleuth.fdi) is overriding the libgpod file (which is 20-libgpod-sysinfo-extended.fdi) in hal policies. I don't know if that's how it works but I've deleted the podsleuth one to see if it helps.
Does PTP work for you? (the camera device) Or do you see nothing at all

Also does ifuse work for you? If you have that working you can just use gtkpod to manager your iPhone.

GVFS supports "afc/libimobiledevice" starting with version 1.5.1 only. You have version 1.4.3 which is too old and your Desktop thus has no support to access devices there.
You can either use iFuse manually to mount the device, access files and sync music using any libgpod application or upgrade your GVFS (no need for iFuse then).
If you upgrade, make sure to install "gvfs-afc" on Debian systems and to login again after installation.

Upgrading GVFS from debian sources breaks some other packages, so i use ifuse. I've compiled libgpod from sources, but gtkpod says that it uses old libgpod 0.7.2(although it uses correct .so library) and can't import iPhone data. But this problem is not related to this ticket. Thanks anyway.
