libgpod checksum error on ipad

Reported by trc | January 8th, 2011 @ 06:55 PM

I'm unable to write to my iOS 4.2.1 Wireless 64 GB Ipad. There is an unsupported checksum error during final sync with the iPad database. This happens using any of the music applications that attempt to sync with libgpod like gtkpod, rhythmbox and banshee.

Is this a known issue with the most current Ubuntu 10.10 PPA -1.0.4-1ubuntu1~maverick1 ?

Here's the stack trace when trying to sync a file in banshee with debug mode enabled:

[6 Warn 13:42:49.939] Failed to save iPod database - GLib.GException: Unsupported checksum type (in libgpod-sharp') at GPod.ITDB.Write () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Banshee.Dap.AppleDevice.AppleDeviceSource.PerformSyncThreadCycle () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 [6 Debug 13:42:49.939] Finished - Syncing iPod

Thanks for your report. Unfortunately iTunes music synchronization, which is handled by libgpod and not libimobiledevice, with the music libraries using DBVersion 5 format uses a new hash generation that is not yet officially supported. You might have more luck asking on IRC.

You can verify your DBVersion with "$ ideviceinfo -q com.apple.mobile.iTunes -k DBVersion".

We'll update the information on http://libimobiledevice.org/ once a solution is public and available.
